Gloria's Glorious Garden – November

The Garden

• In the vegetable plot remove all spent veg to the compost bin, but not diseased veg. Take a note of what you planted and where so you can rotate the crops next year.

• Remove all perennial weeds and cover soil with mulch or compost, this will help the soil and allow your best friends, the worms, to keep the soil healthy.

• Continue to collect seeds and store them in brown paper bags and keep in a cool dry place. Seeds from the nurseries are expensive and it’s much more fun to sow your own, even though the results can be a bit hit and miss.

• Keep cutting the grass, tidy the edges and sweep those glorious leaves into a leaf bin for composting to be used as a mulch later.

• Apples and pears can still be pruned.

The Green House

• All your tender plants and pots must be in the greenhouse by now, to avoid any frost damage.
Fingers still crossed that there will be no slugs and snails but just in case put out a small saucer of slug pellets, and a small jam jar with mouse bait as they will be running in for shelter soon enough.

• Don’t forget to water your salad crops well and keep the greenhouse doors or windows open to ventilate and keep the air nice and clean.

• Prepare bulbs for indoor gloriousness in the winter. Plant white hyacinths, white crocus, paper
white narcissi.

• Fill any pot or tub that has space in, with daffodils and narcissi, they will be so useful to fill in gaps in the border later.
