Haberdashery, how I love that word and how I love it – threads, ribbons, lace, buttons, pins, needles, trims, ric rac and more. My live is full of it and I cannot resist something new and shiny whether I need it or not!
The word ‘haberdashery’ is first mentioned in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. He describes peddlers who sold buttons, needles and other things. It comes from ‘ Hapertas’ meaning ‘small ware’, some also say it was a type of fabric. The word has been around for centuries, the true origins of it are still unknown today.
